As the name suggests, Sandwich Harbour 4×4 is the leading tour operator taking visitors on day tours to Sandwich Harbour situated in the Namib Naukluft Park. As the single most important coastal wetlands of southern Africa, the Walvis Bay Wetlands include the lagoon, salt pans and a bird sanctuary of significance. It is one of only five RAMSAR sites in Namibia. Get to know the fascinating flora and fauna, including the endemic !Nara plant, black-backed jackal, fog-basking beetle, dancing spider (‘white lady of the Namib’), golden mole, shovel-snouted lizard, palmato gecko, springbok, gemsbok, brown hyena and ostrich in the area and learn how they have adapted to survive in the desert. Beautiful scenery awaits on the way to Sandwich Harbour. Weather- and tide-permitting, you will drive all along the beach. If not, the alternative route will provide the chance to see the lagoon from an exclusive lookout spot. Make sure your camera batteries are charged and you have enough space on your memory card.

  1. Full-day Sandwich Harbour 4x4 excursion 10h00 am - 16h00 pm

    The tour takes place from 10h00 to 16h00 and starts at the Sandwich Harbour 4×4 office situated at the Walvis Bay Waterfront. A light lunch including a selection of snacks, salads, breads, and fresh fruit is served with sparkling wine, oysters and other drinks atop a dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or on the beach.

  2. Half-day Sandwich Harbour 4x4 excursion 08h30 am - 12h30 pm or 13h00 - 17h00 pm

    The ideal option when time is limited or after enjoying a marine cruise with Catamaran Charters, its sister company. The morning half-day excursion starts at 08h30 and returns at around 12h30, whereas the afternoon half-day excursion starts at 13h00 and returns at 17h00. Your guide will find a picture-perfect spot to enjoy a selection of savoury and sweet snacks accompanied with sparkling wine, oysters and other beverages.

  3. Marine Dune Day 09h00 am - 17h00 pm

    This is the ultimate combination of a leisure cruise on the Atlantic Ocean and a 4×4 drive in the breathtaking Sandwich Harbour area. The day starts with Catamaran Charters’ Marine Cruise at 09h00, during which you will discover the marine life, including pelicans, seals, dolphins, whales, sunfish and sea turtles. At 12h30, your skipper will drop you off at the Walvis Bay Waterfront where your Sandwich Harbour 4×4 guide will meet you for the excursion to Sandwich Harbour. As with all the other tours, snacks and drinks will be served and you return to the Walvis Bay Waterfront at 17h00.

  4. Walvis Wetlands Birding 08h30 am to 12h30 pm or 13h00 to 17h00 pm

    The morning birding excursion is from 08h30 to 12h30, and the afternoon birding excursion takes place from 13h00 to 17h00. Walvis Bay is renowned for being a birder’s paradise. Over 150 000 migrant birds abound in the area during the summer months, especially non-breeding Palearctic and intra-African species. Over 150 different species have been recorded in this region. Possibly you will even get the chance to tick Namibia’s only true endemic bird off your list – the Dune Lark – that usually lives more inland.

  5. Topnaar Cultural Excursion 3 hours
    Join us on a 3 hour excursion to visit the Topnaar community in the Kuiseb river and its delta and experience the fascinating history of the Topnaars, who are often referred to as “Namibia’s forgotten people”.

Flat shoes and comfortable clothes – it can be a bit cold in the morning before the sun comes out, please bring something warm. (We have enough space in our vehicles for storage.)
